Job Summary:

Provide support to production by building and/or repairing/rebuilding dies.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Locate, drill, tap, and mill various parts using digital readouts on vertical mill reliable to within .001” from drawings supplied
  2. Have an understanding of the contact of leaving grind stock on parts that are to be heat-treated. This includes how much grind stock to leave to achieve the dimension called for on the part print that does not specify anything other than the final dimension required
  3. Must be able to reliably and accurately mill pockets and shapes that do not necessarily begin or end outside of the part
  4. Use a dial indicator and edge finder to locate positions on pre-existing or worn parts for modification or re-machining
  5. Use vertical mill and carbide drills to drill through hardened materials
  6. Reliably produce results when milling with carbide end mills in hardened materials
  7. Basic lathe work, including turning of shafts with shoulders and simple “V” threads
  8. Dress surface grinding wheels with a radius ending at an angle tangent to the radius ending at an angle tangent to the radius
  9. Precision grind flat surfaces angled to each other and make them meet at a clean corner
  10. Accurately dress complex forms on a surface grinding wheel that may include multiple radii and angles
  11. Lap fitting of round holes for precision press fits and draft in die buttons is required in both hardened and soft materials
  12. Completely build a new die or rebuild an existing die from a complete set of drawings supplied by the Engineering Department
  13. Must be able to resurface an existing production die. This includes the sharpening of both the upper and lower units, making any and all adjustments to the timing of the die through the reduction of the shut height of the die from sharpening
  14. Have the ability to write complex programs for the wire EDM when given complete drawings with ordinate dimensions to work from
  15. Must have the ability to rebuild dies without formal engineering drawing, as well as document the repairs so the change(s) can be recorded on the drawings
  16. Have the ability to train new apprentices in all areas of the job

Work Environment:
The employee will work around moving mechanical parts and machinery in the factory. The noise level in the work environment is loud in the manufacturing area.

License/Certification:
Journeyman License in Tool and Die Making (Required)

Job Summary:

Provide a clean and safe workplace through the proper maintenance of all equipment in the plant.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Diagnose malfunctions of machine or equipment to determine the need for adjustment or repair.
    Repair and overhaul machines and mechanical and hydraulic equipment.
    Fit bearings, repair and adjust clutches and cylinders including disassembly.
    Replace and repair parts and reassemble to proper operating conditions.
  2. Perform short welding and brazing.
    Disassemble, move and install, align and level machines mechanical and support equipment.
    This also includes miscellaneous piping of air and water and coolant lines.
    Must be able to operate the equipment necessary to perform the above duties.
  3. Fabricate, assembly and maintain piping and piping system for industrial processes on the basis of knowledge of the system for industrial processes on the basis of knowledge of system operations and studies of plans or working drawings.
    Plans sequence of installations, fabricate and assembles.
    Test system for leaks to insure sufficient capacity.
  4. Performs inspection and routine service of mechanical and hydraulic equipment in conjunction with preventive maintenance.
  5. May design or redesign equipment to meet modern specifications or to improve operations in the plant (in conjunction with the Engineering Department and/or Research and Development).
  6. Install and repair wiring of electrical fixtures, apparatus and control equipment.
    Distribution apparatus such as switches, relays and circuit breaker panels using proper equipment.
    Connect power cables to equipment such as motors and install grounding leads.
    Test continuity of circuit to insure electrical compatibility and safety or components using test instruments such as a multi-meter.
    Observes functioning of installed equipment or system to detect hazards and the need for adjustments, relocation or replacement.
  7. Fits and assembles components according to blueprints, manuals and engineering memorandums.
    Sketches and knowledge of machine construction to construct, rebuild and repair machines and equipment using proper equipment.
    Analyzes assembly blueprint and specification manual and plans machine building operations.
    Verifies conformance of parts to prints using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauges and micrometers.
    Verifies alignment and tolerances of moving parts.
    Test operation of assembly by hand.
  8. Installs machinery and equipment, which includes the installation of electrical power, water, gas, etc. according to layout plans, blueprints and other drawings in industrial establishments.
    Uses hoists, lift trucks, as well as hand and power tools.
    Sets up and operates machines to verify confirmations to specifications. NOTE: This is not meant to mean the Maintenance and Machine Repairer Classification will set up the machine to run production.
    Dismantles machines using proper equipment.
    Moves machinery and equipment using hoist, dollies, rollers, and fork trucks.
  9. All plant equipment that requires a fork truck to be moved will be done by the Maintenance Department.
  10. Studies blueprints, sketches, machine part specifications or verbal instructions to determine type and dimension of metal stock required for producing or reproducing machine parts.
    Produces needed parts using equipment such as lathes, grinders and mills to required specifications.
  11. Has the ability to learn and use computer machine maintenance programs to help control costs and inventory.
  12. May on an emergency basis be asked to perform duties not specifically outlined above and would provide protection to the plant and others.
  13. Complete set up for Laser Etcher and Cold Seal in Packing Department if Utility Person is out of the plant or unavailable.
  14. Follow Company Policies and Shop Rules.
  15. Complete required paperwork.

Job Requirements:

  1. The individual must obtain a forklift operator’s license issued by Crescent Manufacturing Company within the qualifying period.
  2. Must have a Journeyman’s card in the Maintenance Machine Repairer Classification.
  3. If employee does not have a Journeyman’s card in the Maintenance Machine Repairer Classification, he or she would be required to successfully complete the requirements of an Apprentice in the Apprenticeship Program in order to obtain Journeyman’s card.

Objective/Purpose of Job
Keep the Henry filters clean, as well as add oil and change filter paper as needed. Run the Solvent distiller and Company errands. Complete janitorial duties and other miscellaneous duties as required.

Specific Duties

Solvent Distiller

  1. Operate Solvent recycler
  2. Move and deliver solvent as needed
  3. Move D. I. water as needed

Henry Filters

  1. Check oil level and add oil as required
  2. Monitor the filter paper and change as needed
  3. Complete the Oil Filtration Systems Paper Log Sheet (MAINT-007, Rev C)
  4. Clean mud from filter and dump
  5. Clean up the dry zorb around the Henry filters
  6. Squeeze the oil out of the Pig blankets and dump

 

Briquetter (Mudder)

  1. Run briquetter
  2. Dump mud

 

Janitorial Duties

  1. Sweep Front Office (1st Shift Only)
  2. Sweep the Training Room on a weekly basis (1st Shift Only)
  3. Check the cigarette butt receptacles every two weeks and dump as needed
  4. Fill the bottom of the cigarette butt receptacles with sand as needed

 

Cleanliness of Plant

  1. Clean floor with sweeper and floor scrubber on a daily basis (Will primarily be done on 2nd Shift)
  2. Pick up any debris that is laying on the floor
  3. Wax floors as required
  4. Paint as needed

 

Run Company errands as needed

 

Seasonal Duties

  1. Snow and ice removal as needed

 

Miscellaneous Duties

  1. Clean wash boxes
  2. Make sure dock area is free of debris
  3. Dump scrap steel as required
  4. Inspect the parking lot on a weekly basis for blades
  5. Make sure the outside of the building and the lawn are free of debris
  6. Other miscellaneous duties as required

Job Summary:

The Grinding Setup classification is responsible for being able to setup a grinder to the specifications required for a specific part in a timely manner that will produce a quality product. This classification involves not only being able to setup a grinder, but to operate the grinder in accordance with the grinding and packaging (if applicable) process sheet(s) to consistently produce a quality product in accordance with company standards and safety regulations. This classification involves operating machinery, using technical equipment to verify specifications, and the use of sound judgement when identifying quality issues on a product.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Must be able to operate a grinder to the same key responsibilities as a Grinder Operator, which include but are not limited to:
    Must be physically able to do the job. Occasional heavy lifting (50 lbs) is required (assistance is available from safety equipment and/or co-workers if necessary);
    Being able to read and understand Engineering prints;
    Understand the Job Traveler (Production Packet), what is to be included within the packet at all times, what is to be removed at the end of an operation, and who to inform when an order is complete;
    Accurately use micrometers, dial calipers, microscopes, gauges, comparator, and other equipment needed to maintain product quality specifications;
    Must be able to properly start up and shut down grinders;
    Complete all required paperwork and quality checks (legibly), as well as filling out a Grinding data sheet properly;
    Be able to identify non-conforming product and correct the problem and if the problem cannot be corrected notifying a Resource Manager of the issue;
    Weld coils into the grinder in which the weld makes it through the grinder without breaking. Ensure that coils do not get run-through the grinder when there is material to be welded into;
    Be able to adjust grind wheels, hones, and strops as needed to maintain the specifications listed on a grind data sheet. This includes maintaining the strops by adding compound (as needed);
    Inform the Resource Manager when a grinder is in need of maintenance, supplies, materials or anything else that could affect the smooth flow of production;
    Weigh and place the scrap in designated area at the end of the shift;
    Remove grind finds (mud) from any of the stations and the tops/bottoms of the tanks daily (preferably to start the shift or at the first weld of the day). These tasks will vary depending on the grinder;
    Make sure the proper amount(s) of required fluid (oil / solvent) are being used to operate the grinder efficiently;
    Clean any filters as needed;
  2. Must be capable of setting up any machine in the grinding department;
  3. Check the belt tension at the beginning of the shift on the machine(s) assigned for proper tension and notify their Resource Manager if the belt needs to be replaced;
  4. Must be able to effectively troubleshoot any grinder in the department as well as be able to make or recommend changes needed to maintain the quality of the blade within the defined specifications;
  5. Be able to identify items in need of repair and complete such minor repairs and/or maintenance on any machinery in the grinding department.
  6. Be able to effectively communicate any on-going problems being experienced and the status of the production processes to the Resource Manager, their coworkers, Grinder Setup form, verbally, and any other tools that may have been utilized;
  7. Must be a licensed forklift operator to operate as needed. This requires obtaining a license through training and testing to be able to operate a forklift;
  8. Keep areas in the department as well as the setup area(s) clean and orderly;
  9. Completed required paperwork (setup related forms), as well as filling out data sheet(s) and legibly;
  10. Other work assigned by the Resource Manager, which includes but is not limited to:
    Fill in for operators who are sick, on vacation, or otherwise temporarily unable to do their job;
    Participating in continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives;
    Research and development tasks; and
    General cleaning of the facility.
  11. Must be committed to Crescent’s Mission/Vision Statement and Quality Policy;
  12. Follow Company policies and Shop Rules; and
  13. Must present a professional attitude.

Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma or GED preferred;
  2. Previous manufacturing is an asset but not required (training provided).
  3. Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to follow written and verbal instructions;
    Prospective new hires as well as successful bidders are required to score at least 80% on the Grind Setup Skills Test (General Math & Mechanical Reasoning Questions) to be able to enter the classification.
  4. Ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and perform repetitive tasks safely; and
  5. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.

Work Environment:

  1. Quality driven manufacturing setting;
  2. Exposure to noise, moving machinery, and varying temperatures; and
  3. Personal protective equipment (PPE) required at all times while in the facility.

Job Summary:

This classification involves operating machinery, using technical equipment to verify specifications, and the use of sound judgement when identifying quality issues on a product.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Must be physically able to do the job. Occasional heavy lifting (50 lbs) is required (assistance is available from safety equipment and/or co-workers if necessary);
  2. Being able to read and understand Engineering prints;

  9. Weld coils into the grinder in which the weld makes it through the grinder without breaking. Ensure that coils do not get run-through the grinder when there is material to be welded into;
  10. Be able to adjust grind wheels, hones, and strops as needed to maintain the specifications listed on a grind data sheet. This includes maintaining the strops by adding compound (as needed);
  11. Inform the Resource Manager when the machine is in need of machine maintenance, supplies, materials or anything else that could affect the smooth flow of production;
  12. Weigh and place the scrap in designated area at the end of the shift;

    There is adequate pig matting (may or may not need replaced); and
    The area by the payout table is free of debris.
  17. Be able to effectively communicate any on-going problems being experienced and the status of the production processes to the Resource Manager, their coworkers, Grinder Setup form, verbally, and any other tools that may have been utilized;
  18. Completed required paperwork (legibly), as well as filling out data sheet properly (as needed);
  19. Other work assigned by the Resource Manager, which includes but is not limited to:
